Weight gain after kidney transplantation is common, and the resulting overweight and obesity are associated with serious health complications. Currently, the cause of weight gain in the general adult population is multifactorial and is usually influenced by several factors such as genetic inheritance, gender, age, race, diet, lifestyle, and health status. However, kidney transplant recipients must also contend with factors specific to their population, namely the effects of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive drugs on body fat gain and fluid accumulation and retention.
Hypothesis: Kidney transplant patients suffer from overweight and obesity, which leads to serious metabolic and cardiovascular alterations, resulting in deterioration of renal function and graft loss.
Objectives: The overall objective of this project is to determine the impact of obesity and body mass index on renal graft function and associated risk factors in the 5 years after kidney transplantation.
Methodology: A retrospective study will be conducted.
Participants: The participants of the study will be kidney transplant patients of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Granada, whose follow-up and monitoring are carried out in the nephrology consultations. The sample will consist of all patients who meet the inclusion criteria: having received a kidney transplant between January 1, 2010 and December 30, 2015.
