Children and their families often experience the process of illness and hospitalization with anxiety, pain, and fear. Hospitalization can have several emotional effects, such as the fear of the unknown, physical injury and pain, loss of control, separation, insecurity, and loss of family routines.
Children undergoing orthopedic surgery are most likely to experience physical and emotional disorders such as anxiety, fear, and pain. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing intervention protocol that prepares children for hospitalization after surgery.
It is a randomized controlled study whose intervention consists of a nursing consultation to prepare for hospitalization. This preparation will include providing children and their parents with information about the steps and procedures occurring during hospitalization.
It is expected that this intervention will reduce children's feelings of anxiety, fear, and pain during hospitalization and promote their active participation, as well as that of their parents, in their health project in order to achieve a better health-related quality of life.
