For a long time, health was considered as the opposite of disease, the latter being conceptualized exclusively considering physical or biological disturbances and seen as an accidental event, which affected the organism, without the possibility of triggering any type of reaction that the could avoid (Larrea and Plana, 1993). In this sense, the concept of health and illness, throughout the history of humanity, acquired different connotations that came from constructions on the meanings of the nature of the body, the functions and its structure, on the body-spirit and person- environment (Reis, 1998).
This project's objects of study are nurses, care, people with chronic illnesses (and their worsening) and their family or community.
To deepen our object of study, we propose to develop studies of various types of methodology with a view to building a real portrait of scientific knowledge in the area in a national and international context.
We consider the integration of CLE and Post-Bachelor/Masters students to be useful and pertinent in participating in studies that enhance scientific knowledge about care processes for people with chronic illnesses, their family and community.
Project objectives:
Develop scientific knowledge about providing nursing care to people with chronic illness, their family and community;
Promote original research studies, with recognized impact in the field of nursing sciences, for people experiencing chronic illness processes;
Develop, monitor and evaluate means of health promotion, disease prevention and treatment, functional readaptation and social reintegration in all life contexts.
Note: The VCC Project: Living With Heart is an associated project of this structure.
