Violence in psychiatry: From understanding to promoting the safety of all parties involved

This project aims to conduct review and exploratory studies to analyze experiences in the management of psychiatric crises involving the risk of aggressive behavior in order to promote the safety of all parties involved, as well as studies that allow understanding the mechanisms of warning signs of aggression, particularly in forensic psychiatric units.

In addition to preventing aggressive incidents and promoting quality care in safe and therapeutic environments, the project also aims to improve professional nursing practice in psychiatric settings.

To achieve these objectives, different tasks will be carried out in three phases:

I - Development of review studies to identify strategies to control aggressive behavior, taking into account the risk of violence, and to analyze experiences with physical restraint procedures. In addition, an exploratory study will be conducted to evaluate experiences in the management of psychiatric crises involving the risk of aggressive behavior.

II - Development of studies for understanding the mechanisms of warning signs of aggression, especially in forensic psychiatric units.

III - Development of a model to assess and prevent aggressive behavior in psychiatric/forensic settings and organization of training sessions and events to promote the safety of all parties involved.
